    Paleo Diet

If Dr. Alavi has suggested that the Paleo Diet may be right for you, here are the basic guidelines.

    What to Eat

    What to Eliminate

    • Lean, clean protein every meal and snack:
      • Grass-fed beef, lamb, bison, buffalo
      • Free-range chicken, turkey
      • Wild-caught Alaskan salmon
      • Free-range eggs
      • All free of hormones, pesticides, etc.
    • Unlimited and wide-variety of veggies aim for all colors every day
    • Fruit with every meal (because you're not eating carbs in right column)
    • No more than 4 oz of nuts a day
      • Walnuts best, then macademia nuts, then others. Please note that peanut is actually a legume and should be avoided.
    • Healthy fats in moderation if they're cold-pressed (4 tablespoons or less a day):
      • Olive
      • Avocado (but better in whole avocado form)
      • Walnut
      • Flaxseed oil
    • All grains*
    • All dairy*, except whey okay if you have no antibodies to it.
    • Legumes* (peanuts, peas, beans, and soy)
    • Tubers (potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc.)
    • Refined sugars, artificial sweeteners
    • Hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils, and canola oil

    * Avoid completely with any auto-immune disease.

Initially you are allowed three meals or snacks a week that contain an “indiscretion” of tubers, non-gluten grains, sugar, etc. As you progress, reduce the indiscretions to two meals or snacks a week, then one meal or snack a week, then only occasionally for special occasions like graduations, weddings, birthdays, etc.
